You could look at photos from real houses that have the style that you want, or even use them as a template, like I did with some popular buildings. |

The way I'd do it:
Create cylinder, select upper and bottom face
Inset both faces and Connect them (result is a ring)
Now delete all the unwanted segments and fill both remaining endings

Laptops usually can access the NUM block with the FN key. The corresponding number keys (dunno if also + and -) are somewhere in the letter block then, often it's printed small in a corner of the keys ... |
