@granada: Instead of the extrusion-step you can imho also use the "connect" tool.

I'm not sure if the connect options existed 7! years ago... please look at the date before posting:P

the special thing about this program is that it doesn't really work with subdivision levels, but it subdivides the mesh in realtime around your stroke. It's really intuitive but imo zbrush and mudbox ...
