maybe if the feature is turned off by default, the experts users wont have any problem BUT the newcomers will face the same issue as now.
Until they go to the options and change it. |

ABCD: Thank you for posting your initial problems with our choice to use shift-click as a selection mechanism.
We don't take switching selection mechanisms lightly (as it might alienate all our current users who have been used to shift-click for years... and allowing the application to switch between the two mechanisms is not an option as far as I'm concerned), but we have had similar signals from new users before, so at some point we might actually consider to switch.
What does everybody think? |
just switching is not fair for the users that used deled this way for years, i don't see the point of not allowing switching to another option in the option panel. but i'm not the deled coder so maybe there's some technical choice that prevent to made such a thing.
my opinion as a new user is that i'm fine with the actual shift+click and probably not switch myself to a single click option. |

Don't switch, my arms/hands are completely grown into the DeleD Shift/control use, I would hate it when it would switch (you could do that you can use or shift or something else in the options menu) |
LOL....me too xD...but well, maybe the Default (and only configuration that DeleD has, could be used as Default and the other one could be setup by the user _________________

Can't you just let the user assign custom controls somehow? _________________ Behold! The DeleD Wiki! Please help us expanding it

Hold shift_mouse down to select, CTRL_mouse to de-select might be better, but that would probably conflict with my camera movement, which I like. Learning to switch to object mode and select an object before you could select a poly on the object, and shift_ctrl_select were a little complicated at first, but a quick review of the hotkeys in the help files a couple of times got me used to it. It might be better to place that hotkey list under the info tab as a quicker reference instead of having to find it in the help docs. |

I think that's a good idea too and I've added a short hotkey list (not all of them) under the Info menu item. Available in 1.8. |

I think user assigned controls would be the best way to go, or keyboard layout options. I have other programs and they are one click selections (Which might be why you get a similar response from a lot of new users as it is common in other programs.) As I have said before the program is promising but do you really want a "mind the step" warning on it for all potential users?
(BTW I am now a registered user of the full program) |
