More indications about what is actually doing the lightmapper process (ie indicating the blur filter passes process ...)

Possibilty of simply creating 2 sided geometries (for the cube at least). Hollowing a cube is not always what we (I) want.

Hmmm a .... todo list Smile

Some of the above suggestions may be a bit fancy, not sure ...
Anyway they are written Smile

Edit : also if DeleD could remember where it saves screenshots ...

Hi Mappy,

Nice suggestions! My first reaction:

We opted for the simple progress bar based on the assumption that our more artistic users wouldn't want to be bothered with technical details... they just want to know the thing is still working, plus an indication of the the amount of time it is going to take to get finished.

Would a better indication of the lightmapper process make you feel more 'in control'? (very much a stereotypical example from a 'user interactivity' course... technical users like to be 'in control'. It is like wanting to see the compiler progress when doing a build from a programming IDE.). Perhaps we could make it optional at some point.

On a sidenote, the 'blur filter passes' take very little time, you would barely be able to read what was going on Very Happy

I think offering the possibility to create two-sided geometry is basically a good idea, although there are various situations where creating such geometry would not be a good idea (i.e. it is infinitely thin, it would never make a proper "solid"). In the hands of some unacquainted users such a nice little hammer could quickly become a gun to shoot themselves in the foot with. Plus the difference between two-sided geometry and simply turning culling off might be a bit challenging to newcomers. That said, it is still a good idea.

Ehrrr... are you saying you would like to maintain a todo-list from within DeleD? Like... ehrrr... store the things you still want to do with a model inside the DMF's metadata? Or are you saying something completely different here?

Hi Paul-Jan,

About the lightmapper progress bar :
The last time I used the lightmapper was also the first time I used the blur filter passes option (I'm still discovering DeleD sometimes).
And I noticed that just before the end of the "whole" process (let's say at 80 or 85 % to the end), the bar was no more progressing, and that never happened before.
So I thought it was the blur filter process that was working, and that with no indication at all ... so that was the reason of that request.
You know, I think that nearly everybody here is both a "technical" and an "artist" (at least all the people who are on the forum, I don't know the others of course).
Anyway, maybe I have too much in mind the way Gile(s) handles that progress bar (every step seems to be displayed). It adds a "pro" touch I think ...
Are you sure the blur filter process takes just a very little time to proceed ? I suppose yes Smile Embarassed

About 2 sided geometries :
Well I was in need of that the other day, with my building #2.
I've "modeled" the inside of a flat, you can see through the window.
For that I've added a cube inside the building, deleted the front face, and flipped all the other faces. That way, I was able to apply a texture on the floor, another on the wall ...
But the problem was (of course) that if I was looking through any neighbour's window in direction of the "modeled" flat, I was seeing the inside of that flat ... I thought it could be problematic (and non realistic) for some screenshots , so I've added another cube around the previous one ... arf .... then I tought having the possibiliy to put a simple 2 sided cube would have been cool in that special case.
This morning, I thought that I could have used 2 (or more) 2-sided rectangles to hide what I wanted to hide ... but it's too late Smile
If my request is hard to implement, forget it.
But if it is easy, why not make a "2-sided" option like the rectangle object already has ?
Do you think that creating my own cube with 6 2-sided rectangles would result in a perfect cube ? With all the rectangles correctly snapped to the grid, and with a merge process ? If so forget my request.

About the todo list :
Laughing
ahemmm I was more thinking of a kind of txt file that could be launched directly by DeleD Laughing Ah nevermind ...
Well sometimes, I shut down DeleD and say to me "don't forget to do that, and that ..." and of course I'm too lazy to open a txt file myself and write what I have to write in there Smile
Some app have this kind of feature, and it is sometimes useful.

Bye bye.
