Hi people, today I'm going to show you why normal mapping is so great and we all should use it.

This texture is taken from the KudosCry texturepack 1 (1024x1024). You can see the left cube is just textured (still very good quality Wink !) but the right cube has the normal map applied! The difference is extreme and since normal mapping is even possible with Blitz3D, we all should consider the useage of normal maps in the future!

No, these threads are about: "I want normal mapping in DeleD".
My thread is about: "Look what can be done with normal mapping, it's important to use that in the future".

Also, this thread is a bit of promotion for the texturepack Wink

Uhm, hello? We all know what normal mapping is and what it does Rolling Eyes Its a question of "Would be Normal Mapping useful?". It isnt so easy like "Look, Normalmapping is cool, lets implement it!". DeleD is mainly a modeler. Why the hell it should provide support for normal mapping? You can implement normal mapping in your own engine or fileformat. Or whatever.

Well, YOU might already know what normal mapping is. But there ARE in fact people who don't know what normal mapping is and what can be done with it.

RisingRealms,

I think the problem is that your picture shows what can be done by simple bump mapping. It doesn't show the true power of normal mapping.

Great post though, to make more people aware of it. Nicely done.

Yeah, the true power of normal mapping comes to effect if you use it with low poly animated characters. But since those textures are for level design, I couldn't show anything better Wink

Maby it is a good idea that if deled whas compatebil wheed animated objects exs. and maby can edit the animations.
and the same wheed textures animated Textured Face`s
