I'm not one for reinventing the wheel... a more sensible route rather than having this function built in to DeleD would perhaps be to have the ability to export your mesh/object into say RoadKill, and have it exported back to DeleD complete with the Unwrapped UV map available?

The same technique is used with Maya which costs a lot of brass, but doesn't have its own UV Unwrapper.

Guys, I have the good news. Very Happy

Managed to implement planar mapping:

What you see here is the "UV Map" tool (check button in toolbar).
This tool is responsible for applying some kind of mapping of the selection.

The rectangle in the UV viewport (left) shows where the selection will be mapped to. This rectangle is draggable and resizable and will show a preview of the mapped geometry. This preview will be changed on the fly as you change your selection, or manipulate the target rectangle. Razz

As you see, the patch of triangles on the sphere is perfectly mapped to UV space. Smile

I'm planning to implement the other mapping modes soon. I'll also do some additional bugfixing. I hope to distribute this plugin with the next version of DeleD, to give that release a "bit" more weight. Smile

This is going to be a cool tool for modellers. A tutorial would be awesome so we can get up to speed with all its functionality. Smile

All mapping functions are done now. Here's a teaser. Very Happy

The light-blue stuff you see is a preview. You can apply the operation to get the actual UV's (Not implemented that, but it should be pretty straightforward).

Very cool stuff indeed! Very Happy People should really use this plugin instead of DeleD's own UV tools. Spread the word!

Ok, It's time to release NashaUV 0.72 beta. Very Happy

Changelog:
- Planar mapping, Cylinder mapping and Spherical mapping added. Cool
- Move and rotate tool with easy-to-use gizmo's to move the mapping gizmo's with
- Align tool to align the mapping gizmo with the current selection
- An UV-target gizmo to make a target rectangle to put the mapped faces in.
- Live preview of the mapping of the current selection in the UV-target gizmo.
- Options window added containing colors, camera speed, WASD/arrows control and more.

Notes:
- It keeps track of the selection per mode. If you select polygons in planar mapping mode, you will not have this selection in cylinder mapping mode.
- When using the align tool for a cylinder gizmo, you should select the cap of the cylinder to align the gizmo properly. I've tried to improve this, but funky math is involved here.
- The mirror tool does not always work correctly on the mapping gizmos. This is failure by design and requires some work to fix.
- NashaUV is not designed for high polygon models. Keep in mind that problems may arise with models larger than a 5k polygons.

Future plans
- Implement a welding tool for vertices and edges (Will work like "average" in DeleD).
- Fix mirror tool bug mentioned above
- get rid of OpenGL selection stuff to make it more robust
- Adding more options
- UV-unwrapping

You can download the new DLL here.

Download

If you have time, please try the tutorial:

Tutorial

I'll stop working on it for now. If someone finds a bug, I'll take a look ofcourse.

Enjoy! Wink

Damn, how did I miss this one?

Strange, I've been waiting to try this tool.. didn't realise it was already out and live. I think its a forum issue, I have noticed that sometimes, when I make a post, it shows for me as a new post, other times its normal.

Oh well, least I found it Smile

Off to try it out now.

I've completed the Maya Temple project, and just started a Japaneese Temple complex.. Horyuji in Nara, said to hold the bones of Budda... So maybe a while before I'm texturing Smile

Either way, I'll give feedback.. in the meantime.. looks excellent, great job. Smile
