I've been looking for a good, affordable 3D modeler that I could put on my portable hard drive and use at home and at work.

Most of the tools I've found are beyond my price range, or limited to one pc if you buy it, or won't behave right if you install on a portable HD. While over at unity3d.com I ran across a post mentioning Deled3D going free and open source, and out of my frustration for the failing COLLADA exporting from Google Sketchup I decided to try it out.

I downloaded the demo for now, and am anxiously awaiting the 15th. I applaud the way you gave people a heads up about the product going free in advance.

I built my first model today, and while it isn't as good as some of the others, I'd like to post a picture.

Hi there trickyspark, and welcome to the forums. Your model is pretty good for a first try-out. I think you will be able to create some very fine scenes with DeleD. Smile Why don't you join the Winter Contest 2009? There's still some time left and it's all about fun and creativity in there. A good chance to start learning DeleD, me thinks. Very Happy

Thank you for your kind words. It's good to hear you like DeleD as much as you do. Please spread the word - the more people that know about DeleD, the more chance it has to be developed as an open source product! Exclamation

I guess you guys use extrude a lot and movement maths?

I can only glue prims together... been a wee bit ambitious using a 'grid/mesh' and made some terrains and the odd facade of a building.

I have sort of figured out how the UV mapping works, to a limited degree, same with moving nurbs about to simulate recesses etc... but not how they both work... what I want to acheive is, to use the picture on the grid to act as a 'map' so I can rearrange the nurbs to suit the shape I want to acheive.. all that happens is, the picture becomes very distorted giving me no idea where to move things lol.... unless I correct the texture as I go along, which is very time consuming..

As with most 'problems' there will be a eureka moment I'm sure...

Sorry for the late reply here. I had to bury my Grandmother.

Your model looks really good. I have a hard time making models look that good and I've been here a few days longer than you. (err...or is that years?)
