Wonderful work, AWM. If this was a contest, you win.
I am just working on a similar project, a lantern.
So thanks for the idea of a "simulated" lens flare..

Thanks for the feedback, and comments, much appreciated. I am glad you find the techniques useful, I love exploring.. well trying to break things mainly Laughing

I have started a tutorial regarding the glass and effects I have learnt http://www.delgine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4391 I'm doing this whilst I lightmap one of my scenes for the Christmas contest Wink Its well over 70,000 polygons and will probably double by the time I'm finished. Thankfully, we don't have to publish it as a 3D environment scene lol.

Awesome stuff really.

Do you have a portfolio online somewhere, too?

hmm, not really.
I'm on Linked-In as my real name, Facebook etc as A World Maker, or AWM Mars.
Websites:
http://www.yourinside.com and http://www.wba-advertising.com the other 4 companies have all but gone, so I could focus on just these two.

On the Your Inside website there is a gallery of some of the environments I've created, most you have already seen here, albeit, there are others which were bespoke for clients under NDA.

I did begin working with Virtual Worlds back in 1998, progressing to Adobe Atmosphere until 2004, mainly developing Virtual Environments, and exploring their potential.

Created a total of 5 companies in Second Life, generating an income of around L$29,000,000 Linden Dollars in a year (267 Linden Dollars to the USD, thats around $108,614.23), employing around 50 people at their peak. We had contracts with some large corporations like IBM, LOreal, Nike, FutureWorks, Saatchi and Saatchi, either directly or via contractor.

I'd like to think, back in 2005, I started the first professional (paid for contracts from real companies) machinima company in Second Life. Developing powerful media systems that could span many different platforms, as the prelude to full interoperability. While holding down a full time day job Smile

I developed an autonomous training system for Company, Educational and Group clients for On-boarding, Education and Training scenarios, using a mixture of video feeds and multiple choice Q&A system, triggered by the users presence and authentication, long before the ilks of Sloodle, in Second Life, which I gave away free. (You can still get the Q&A system for free)
Along with a full blown Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced user tutorial automated system, for Second Life.

I also developed the 'Catwalk' systems, in a nutshell, a Avatar controller system that deployable in runtime. See a commercial of the system here http://www.wba-advertising.com/wba-internal/movement_test.html That is one of 3 systems developed. Many of the Fashion movies on the website for Nex-Core (our modelling agency), ustilised the Catwalk systems.

I also dabbled with the first 3D screen for Second Life, achieving a 3D HUD viewer that gave a 3D rendering, to normal movies, without the need for any glasses etc.

I did Project Manage a Virtual World first, back in 2007, by having a live video feed into Second Life, from a venue in Zürich, showing on large wall screens in a virtual venue, and at the same time, a live feed from the Second Life venue into a large wall screen in the 'real life' venue with two way communications, sounds and contacts between 500+ people. Prior to that, it had only been done one-way. I was managing both venues from Zürich, using my Avatar in Second Life to make the connection.

35+ years in Senior Management roles with the construction industry. I've owned 4 'real' companies in the same industry.

Apart from that.. nadda really Laughing

Did you have something in mind?

That's an impressive list of things you did over the years there, AWM. Smile

Well, you post stuff on the Delgine forums on a regular basis and I wouldn't want you to stop doing that, that's for sure. But you're so productive, it seems to me your stuff needs a place of its own. Not so much as to promote yourself, but to allow people to find and use the things you create. Smile

So, inspired by Elementrix' portfolio, wouldn't it be a good idea to create such a site for yourself? I would not only show of your stuff there, but also allow people to download them directly from your site (just as you're doing already).

On the other hand, if some sort of sharing site is developed (John is working on that), you might not need a portfolio site of your own, of course.

My 2 cents. Smile

P.s. I'm on Linkedin too, wanna link?

Ahh yes, I see what you mean. I did have my own website, which included a lot of stuff, my family and friends, including my photography and movie making. I took it down mainly due to time, I couldn't spend the time keeping it fresh, so no point.

I might put up an annexe to the Your Inside, and or the WBA-Advertising domains, with shared links, but only if I can maintain it and keep it fresh.

I hope people get use, pleasure and knowledge using my models. I'm still very much learning, I know I gain a lot from them. It's the same with my machinima making.

I have said this before, but it's worth repeating. Until I found DeleD, I could not find a programme for the production of models and or scenes, that suited my workflow and it was like slipping on a old pair of slippers. Since doing so, I have found a new lease of life in my creativity. My thanks to all those involved in the development of DeleD.

While I wait for the release of the MPEG solutions, I'm very much looking for a scene manager programme, that is not middleware, or requires a deep knowledge of programming, to use. I believe many exist to different degrees, but none have yet made mainstream, without costing many thousands in the begining, or they demand a very high percentage of your future income.

Well, having a site that has more than 1 type of content (in your case, family/friends, photography, movies etc) indeed means you need a lot of time maintaining all that content.

I always vote for 1 type of content only. In your case, perhaps you could claim awmgeometry.com (or something like that) and use it exclusively to make your models available. If you put something new up there every few weeks, I think it's more than enough for the regular user to get interested and shouldn't take that much of your time. Go for it! Smile

Thank you. It's always very nice to hear software I helped create has been of influence in other people's life's. Smile

Yes, I can see the point of doing this..... however, what formats do I put the models up there in? Too many (more than one) and I spend time converting, exporting, uploading, linking, maintaining if I change anything etc etc.

If I use only one format, which one? DXS maybe? I'm already supplying that format within the DPS format in these forums.

What I may do, is create a webpage(s) that have pics and then links to these forum pages, so they can get the models, and anyone not already in possession of DeleD, can get it here Smile Also linking the pages with the scenes on DeleD forums and the entry points via 'Your Inside' website, whereby they can experience them as 'living art' in full 3D.

Goal, to keep all assets linked to one central source, in a single format. I suppose more of a Blog.

Excellent thought though Smile

To follow up from the earlier post I made, regarding the Christmas 2010 competition, I have found time to revisit the scene and break out some of the elements into singular models, complete with textures etc.

This shows the three basic components together: Stall, Present and Sack:-

Here you can download each of the three components. The stall file is quite large, but it does include all the textures I used. Same for all the files.

http://www.working.yourinside.com/DeleD/Models/Christmas2010%20Components/Christmas2010MarketStall.dps

http://www.working.yourinside.com/DeleD/Models/Christmas2010%20Components/Christmas2010Present.dps

http://www.working.yourinside.com/DeleD/Models/Christmas2010%20Components/Christmas2010Sack.dps

The sack is the only model that is not a combined mesh, its tie cord is separate.

What maybe of particular interest, is the methods I used to gain the semi-transparencies for the icicles. The roof mesh was difficult for me, as it was my first attempt at creating anything organic. At least you can see what it is without me telling you first. Smile

Enjoy the models, if like me, you learn anything from them, it's all good. Use them in your own scenes, as long as you don't sell the models, or pass them as your own work. As always, the textures maybe useful.

Thank you for the feedback and compliments. I hope people enjoy the models, as much as I do creating them.

I haven't been doing much lately, so I thought I would have a go today, came up with a 2 slice toaster in Chrome.

You can get the model and textures used, in the dps format as usual, here:

Enjoy Smile

@Dave: hope things will go better soon! We all miss your modeling skill around here. Wink

@AWM: you really need to setup a model library soon. Would be great to be able to browse through your work. Very Happy

I took the plunge and created a framework web-page to display my work etc.
There are no models listed yet, I'm working on getting them in order/format to be able to cross link, most are already hosted on my server anyway, saving time. Along with content for the menu items created, it will take me time to get up and running.

http://www.yourinside.com/intro.html

I also want to make sure I protect everyone, by using the Creative Commons licensing agreements, anyone point me in the right direction for giving away free models, that must not be sold (unless included in their own work) or passed off as their work, nor redistribute them for free or otherwise?
