One more in the series, this time more 'organic', A Simple Vase.

That just leaves you the task of how to texture this now.

Here is the Model file, up to the stage before texturing http://www.working.yourinside.com/DeleD/Tutorials/SimpleVase/ASimpleVase.dxs

And a PDF version of the tutorial for local referencing. http://www.working.yourinside.com/DeleD/Tutorials/SimpleVase/A%20Simple%20Vase.pdf

There are other ways to perform this same model. To save polygons, edges and vertices's, you may wish to not have such a deep Inner to the vase. However, use different split settings for the outer edges, to the shallower inner edges (you will need proportionately less), you will have to use Split, on the inner and outer edges separately.

Yes, I already said this can be done in different ways, but the whole point of the exercise is not about the Vase/Model, but the tools used. That's what tutorials are about Smile

you've already used all these modelling methods in your other tutorials, except inset I think, lathe is also a tool that you didn't show yet, and imo tutorials should show you the best tools for specific situations.

Well now, I may have used all those modelling tools in previous 'Simple' tutorials, however, part of the learning experience is to learn different combinations for using the same tools. As a Carpenter and Joinery, I can tell you, no single tool is for doing only one thing.

I did use Inset and...with Recursive Calls, I could have just clicked Inset twice.

I may do a tutorial on Lathe function, but as any good teacher will tell you, when I find a subject matter that incorporates a lot of tools together, then I will have what I need. However, just because some people find one or two of the tutorials useful to get them started, they may not all find the same ones as useful, having a variation is a bonus.

When was the last time you used DeleD's Lathe function? I've only used it once. If you have used it more than I, please feel free to jump in and create your own Tutorials. I've no intention in covering everything in DeleD, mainly because there are already some excellent examples.

You may try searching through http://www.delgine.com/wiki/index.php/Tutorials the tutorials for a lathe function.
Basically, you outline the shape of your 'vase' starting with the inside surface and complete the 'dot to dot'. Select that polygon and click Lathe, define the degrees and you are done.
You can use freehand or grid to help you with precision.

If I can grab some time, I'll see if I can offer a simple version of a tutorial.
