The main purpose of the DeleD Raytracer is generating nice images. Nothing less, nothing more. The focus, as with all of DeleD, is on ease-of-use, and you'll be raytracing your first stills within minutes, as opposed to tweaking yet another of those billion settings those high-end raytracers have to offer. The queue mechanism allowing you to simply continue your modeling work while the raytracer does all the hard work in the background.

Raytracing Queue

Note: Image will not disappear from the queue after they are saved, because you might want to save multiple times with different post-raytracing settings. You'll have to remove images from the queue manually by using the '-' button at the top of the queue..

Raytracing Preview

Doubleclick on any thumbnail in the queue to open up the image in the Raytracing Preview. If the item in the preview is currently being raytraced, the preview will update live.

Material Properties

Specular Reflection

Specular reflection is what makes materials look shiny. Specular highlights are in fact the smeared-out reflections of light sources, and are a major visual cue in identifying the location of those sources. Specular reflection is what makes plastic look like plastic, and metal like metal.

DeleD allows you to set the following specular properties:

  • Amount - The amount of specular reflection (also known as specularity). As the diffuse and specular components of the light add up, you might want to tone down the diffuse amount whenever you add a lot of specularity to a material, unless you want the material to be relatively bright.
  • Exponent - The higher the specular exponent, the more concentrated the light will be around the angle of reflection, making the highlight smaller and brighter.
  • Color - As the specular highlight is really just reflected light from a given light source, it's color will be a gradient from the color of the material towards color of the light (usually white). By setting the Color property you can introduce a third color that affects the highlight color, emulating subtle hue effects in the material.
